After Taken 2 was made, and before it became a smash hit, Liam Neeson cautioned against talk of a Taken 3, suggesting that the series might have run its narrative course. Many millions of dollars later, Taken 3 was greenlit, with Neeson again suggesting that Taken on the big screen was done after this one.
On this occasion, despite many more millions of dollars heading in the franchise’s direction, it does seem as though the Taken movie boxset is complete.
Neeson is currently on the interview and publicity trail for his new movie, Martin Scorsese’s Silence, and he appeared on Stephen Colbert’s show in the US as part of that. When quizzed as to whether there would be a Taken 4, Neeson this time was adamant. “No, there’s not”, he said. “There’s only so many times your daughter can be taken. Actually if we do have another it will be, ‘please can you take my daughter’?”
Instead, Taken is now heading to the small screen, with NBC backing a TV show in the US. That kicks off next February. But Bryan Mills’ days are done in the movies, it seems…
