Remember her Name!
By Rayvenn D’Clark.
Actress Alicia Vikander, star of Testament Of Youth, is certainly the one to watch in 2015. Fast becoming a big name in Hollywood, her role as Vera Brittain, opposite Game Of Throne’s Kit Harrington, has led to her being called the new Keira Knightley – pretty impressive for a 26 year old Swede in her first English Language production.
Acting is in her blood, with Vikander being the daughter of successful stage actress, Maria Fahl Vikander, known for the 2007 film Darkness of Truth. A former ballerina, Vikander enjoyed a successful dancing career with the Royal Swedish Ballet School. However, as series of injuries led her to turn to acting, appearing in a number of Swedish television shows and movies such as the popular Swedish TV drama Andra Avenyn and a starring role in the film Pure (Lisa Langseth, 2010), which won her the Rising Star Award at the Stockholm Film Festival of the same year.
With an astonishing eight movies set for release in 2015, we can look forward to seeing more of her acting talents in the sci-fi thriller Seventh Son, alongside Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore; heist thriller Son of a Gun with Ewan McGregor and Brenton Thwaites; opposite Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac in Ex Machina as A.I Ava; and in the guy-Richie directed The Man from U.N.C.L.E, alongside Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer. There’s also her leading role in Justin Chadwick’s Tulip Fever, which boasts Dane DeHaan and Christoph Waltz in central roles, and finally opposite Michael Fassbender and Rachel Weisz in the book adaptation The Light Between Oceans, directed by Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine and a Place Beyond the Pines).
In fact, if you are not already wildly jealous of Miss Vikander, this is sure to be the final nail in the coffin: she is rumored to be ‘casually’ dating her 37 year-old German-born/Irish-raised international heartthrob co-star, Michael Fassbender.
You might still be struggling to pronounce her name, but this time next year, it will be all you are able to think of!
Did you know: To play Caroline Mathilde in Nikolaj Arcel’s 2012 film ‘A Royal Affair’ opposite Mads Mikkelsen, Vikander learned Danish in two months.
Testament of Youth is in UK cinemas from Friday 16th January.
