At Artists’ Film Club, we screen and discuss new and rarely seen work by artists in the medium of film, in one of the ICA’s two cinemas. Running since 2008, the season includes up-and-coming artists as well as more established names in artists film.

Aur é lien Froment’s 9 Intervals
1 December 2012 – 2 February 2013
Omnibus screening: 2 February 2013, 5pm

9 Intervals (2012) is a multi-episode digital film work by Aurélien Froment. Episodes 1-9 will be shown weekly for 9 weeks alongside the trailer reels of our regular cinema programme and will culminate in an omnibus event on 2 February 2013 (see below). 9 Intervals is a project commissioned by Pavilion, Leeds.

9 Intervals is a Pavilion project and is part of a tour is funded by Arts Council England’s strategic touring programme www.9intervals.org.uk.

Emily Wardill1 December 2012, 5pm

Based on the true story of the Winchester Widow who was haunted by the spirits of those killed with the Winchester rifle, Emily Wardill’s first feature length film Fulll Firearms (2011), reimagines the widow’s paranoia in a modern day melodrama.

Isa Genzken – 13 December 2012, 7pm

The UK premiere of the German artist Isa Genzken’s Die Klein Bushaltestelle (Ger ü stbau) (Little Bus Stop [Scaffoling], 2012) – a unique opportunity to see Genzken perform alongside artist Kai Althoff in a 70-minute absurdist comedy, shot on home video.

Laure Prouvost – 15 December 2012, 5pm

London-based filmmaker Laure Prouvosts’ first feature length work The Wanderer (2012) is based on a translation of Kafka’s Metamorphosis by artist Rory Macbeth. Macbeth, who has no knowledge of German and used no dictionary for translation, has transformed the classic in a twisting six-part narrative. Prouvost will also screen a selection of her short films on 30 Jan.

Mark Leckey – 9 January 2013, 5pm

From his early works to his recent performances and installations, London-based artist Mark Leckey has engaged with the iconography of popular culture. This Artists’ Film Club includes a cross section of his moving image work and a number of influential short films selected by the artist, who will be present for a Q&A.

Walking Sideways – 19 January 2013, 5pm

As an accompaniment to Fourth Plinth: Contemporary Monument, this Artists’ Film Club presents a selection of moving image works which explore how individual and collective histories, and movements of urban drift and migration are embedded in the tradition of public monuments and architectural structures.

This Artist Film Club screening has been curated by Elsa Coustou, Lucia Garavaglia and Alana Kushnir in collaboration with the ICA.
Supported by MFA Curating, Goldsmiths College, University of London.

Laure Prouvost + Q&A – 30 January 2013, 5pm

London-based filmmaker Laure Prouvost’s short films are the subject of this Artists’ Film Club. The screening will also include a selection of influential shorts selected by the artist, who will be present to discuss her work. Prouvost’s first feature The Wanderer (2012) will also be shown as part of the Artists’ Film Club on 15 Dec.
