In the past, Sigourney Weaver has hinted that she’d be up for returning to any possible Avatar sequels – despite her character Dr. Grace Augustine meeting an unfortunate fate in the first film – but a new interview with Variety has put the actress squarely in the frame for not just Avatar 2, but all the planned sequels director James Cameron has in mind.
Discussing forthcoming flick A Monster Calls, in which she stars with Liam Neeson and his particular set of skills, Weaver decided that she should definitely do a few smaller films in the run up to working with Cameron again. “I was looking ahead at the four Avatar sequels looming over me, and the idea of doing a small, intimate picture that was all about relationships was very appealing.”
Four! But, according to Weaver, they’re looking pretty tight. “In my opinion, the three scripts I’ve read so far are many times more amazing than the first one in terms of their scope. He did a lot of the heavy lifting in the first movie, establishing the family and the relationships and the world, and now he really gets to play.”
