We’ve heard in recent weeks after how Ben Affleck’s standalone Batman movie, The Batman (as it’s not yet been officially titled) is set to offer a “fresh take” on the Caped Crusader.
Magic Mike and True Blood alum Joe Manganiello is set to play Slade Wilson/Deathstroke in the film, and chatting to CBM, he reported that “When I met Ben we sat down and we talked about, you know, the role. We talked about the movie. His take is a fresh take but I think the audience is going to be surprised. Because it’s a road that no one’s really gone down that’s completely integral to, you know, who Batman is”.
One thing we don’t officially know yet, though, is just when to expect the new film. Warner Bros, as most studios do, had been reserving release dates in the calendar for ‘unnamed’ movies, and had ringfenced October 5th 2018 for one such DC project. However, it’s now been revealed that that date is being taken by the Aquaman movie, from director James Wan. This, in turn, has opened up a previously-held date of July 27th 2018. That’s when Aquaman was orignally set to land, but now it’s free.
It’s unlikely that Zack Snyder can turn a second Justice League film around in time for it, so that puts the two candidates as The Flash or The Batman for that high summer bow. We know which our money is on…
