Plans are still afoot at Sony Pictures for a big screen remake/reboot of Charlie’s Angels, and there have been one or two developments to tell you about.
It’s been known for some time that Elizabeth Banks was set to direct the movie, her second feature behind the camera following Pitch Perfect 2. But now we learn that the film is zeroing in on Janelle Monae to take one of the lead roles in the movie. Monae had a sizeable hit recently with the excellent Hidden Figures, and is reported to be at the top of the wishlist for the project, although there are no signs that formal discussions have begun as of yet.
Furthermore, the script for the movie is being rewritten by Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro, the pair who created the TV show Narcos. They’re picking up writing duties from Beauty & The Beast remake scribe Evan Spiliotopoulos, who worked on the previous draft.
Finally, Sony is said to be targeting a release date of June 7th 2019 for the movie. Again, this hasn’t yet been officially announced.
