Actor Dave Bautista fears reading the script for Guardians of the Galaxy too far in advance took away some of the “magic”.
The fighter-turned-film star is preparing to shoot the sequel to the hit 2014 Marvel movie, also starring Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper. He’s already had screen tests and make-up sessions to help get back into the role of Drax the Destroyer, but one thing Dave is holding out on is going over the screenplay.
“To be honest with you, when I read the script of Guardians, it almost put a dampener on it,” he told comicbook.com. “First and foremost, I’m a fan, and the second I know what’s going to happen it kind of takes away from the magic a little bit!
“I honestly think that if I asked (director) James (Gunn), he would tell me, but I haven’t asked him. I always think that if they’re not telling you, there’s a reason they’re not telling you. So I almost don’t want to know, because I want to be surprised!”
He already knows it’s going to be a hit though as he has a great deal of confidence in James. Watching the filmmaker get so excited is enough reassurance for Dave that it’s going to be “something special”, particularly because fans are relying on him.
“When I asked him before (about a follow up), coming off the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, I knew the pressure was on him to make it better, and I asked him, ‘How are you going to top this? How are you going to make it better?'” Dave recalled. “He said, ‘No, I’m going to make it different.'”
In the meantime Dave can be seen as baddie Hinx in the latest James Bond movie, Spectre.
