Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick confirm that they’re back writing Zombieland 2…
Gather up all of our Twinkies (and, if you don’t have them, Sno Balls), because it sounds like the Zombieland sequel is finally happening. There is movement on the script and discussions with Woody Harrelson, as well as a “pretty excited” rest of the cast.
Scriptwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese told Kevin Smith on AMC’s Geeking Out (via Comicbook.com) “that is breaking news that we’re on Zombieland 2 right now. We’re sitting with Woody [Harrelson] tomorrow and are going to sort of walk him through some of the stuff we want to do. All the cast is pretty excited.”
Wernick and Rheese were not only the scribes behind the first Zombieland, but also penned the script for a little movie called Deadpool (they just finished the script for Deadpool 2). A logo for Zombieland 2 was unveiled as part of a Sony Pictures presentation given at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, so this isn’t the first we’ve heard of this news.
The original Zombieland, released in 2009, had quite the impressive cast, and it’s unclear from Wernick and Rheese’s comments if, in addition to Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin would all make it back for the sequel. That’s quite the busy group of actors. (Though, they did say, “all the cast is pretty excited,” so…)
Conceivably, the story could continue with only part of the original cast, but it wouldn’t be quite the same without the whole gang, would it?
