Last year saw Warner Bros gave us their grand plan for the DC universe, with release dates for a whole host of films, including the 2019 arrival of Shazam. However, Dwayne Johnson has intimated the film may be along a little earlier than that.
Johnson plays Black Adam in the forthcoming film, and has told MTV that, “no, I don’t think it is going to be that far away. It’s going to be earlier than that. I don’t think 2019.”
If Johnson is right and Shazam is going to be pushed-up, something else in Warner’s DC lineup will have to be moved back. The studio is planning to release two DC titles per year, and more than that would potentially risk audience fatigue, particularly with Marvel also releasing a similar number of titles over the same timeframe.
So we wait to see if Shazam is officially brought forward, but this isn’t the first time Johnson has suggested the film will arrive earlier than 2019.
