Ellen Page has signed on to star in a new zombie thriller from David Freyne in his feature-length directorial debut. The movie is called The Third Wave and it’s the story of a society that is recovering in the aftermath of a zombie outbreak. After the virus is seemingly cured, the once-infected are discriminated against by the rest of the society. As you might expect, this causes all kinds of issues to the point where the military has to be brought in to restore order. In a way, the movie is about the exact social unrest and injustice the genre is designed to comment on through an undead metaphor.
“The Third Wave brings an entire new perspective to the zombie genre, which I love”, said Page. “David Freyne truly shifts his lens on society’s role in the apocalyptic world. I’m so grateful for this opportunity to share his thoughtful approach to horror with audiences”.
Sam Keeley (In The Heart Of The Sea) is set to star alongside Page.
The Third Wave is actually based on a short film by Freyne called The First Wave. That six-minute film served as a proof of concept for the feature. And it’s quite creepy, too.
