Actress Ellie Kemper chooses projects which don’t “glamourise” females.
The 35-year-old star is best known for her comedy roles, appearing in hit movies including Bridesmaids, 21 Jump Street and Sex Tape, along with hit Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. All her jobs are similar in the way they represent their female characters, which Ellie can identify with.
“One thing I really like about all those projects you just named is that people sort of look like normal people,” she smiled to Self magazine, with the interviewer also mentioning her role in The Office US.
“Both men and women. There is no glamourising or idealising a woman’s body, or weight or what they are supposed to look like. Those projects are full of beautiful people, but not fantasy people. Which I think is important.”
As time goes on Ellie has become more and more popular and she’s often recognised while out and about, much to her surprise as she reasons, “it’s not like I’m Julia Roberts.”
With her rising fame comes a lot more attention, which in itself has its own requirements.
“It is a huge responsibility because I do think you’re in the spotlight more and you want to make sure that you are providing an example for people that you would like to provide and holding up certain values that you think are important,” she explained.
“And at a very everyday level, it’s so weird to me. I don’t usually wear make-up when I’m out and about. And I forget now, because I remember being on set and seeing actresses come in without make-up and being like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s what they really look like!'”
In a bid to keep her private life separate from her career, the flame-haired beauty isn’t on social media as it would mean even more responsibility.
