Warner Bros has set a date for the release of Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Although casting and a director is yet to be determined, the studio will bring the first instalment to the big screen on November 18, 2016.
The 54-page book was published in 2001 and featured throughout the Harry Potter series as one of the Hogwarts textbooks.
Little is currently known about how screenwriter JK Rowling will adapt the textbook for cinema, except that it is likely to focus on fictional “magizoologist” author Newton Scamander.
It was previously revealed that Fantastic Beasts will be set in New York about 70 years before the “boy who lived” but will not act as a prequel or sequel.
Meanwhile, David Heyman – who served as producer on all eight of the Harry Potter films – will produce once again on the spinoff, which is expected to form part of a trilogy.
