Ron Perlman suggests that he and Guillermo del Toro are just too busy to make Hellboy III now…
Not for the want of trying, it looks as if director Guillermo del Toro and leading man Ron Perlman are becoming resigned to the idea of Hellboy 3 not happening. It’s been eight years and counting since we last saw Hellboy on the big screen, and over the weekend Ron Perlman was doing press for his latest collaboration with del Toro, the upcoming Netflix show Trollhunters.
Whilst he was doing so, the question of Hellboy 3 came up. And Perlman said that “we don’t talk about that anymore”.
When pushed for a reason why, he said that “because he’s busy, and I’m busy. Maybe one day he’s going to call and say ‘hey, let’s do it’. But for right now? We’re happy discovering new worlds to conquer”.
We suspect that Hellboy 3 will go down as a lost comic book movie sequel, ultimately. The change in tone from Perlman contrasts with his Tweet the summer before last, where he tried to get the idea of Hellboy 3 trending on Twitter.
The door might not be firmly closed on Hellboy 3. But it does feel that this one has sailed, sadly. Hope we’re wrong.
