In the past week, we’ve learned that one of the two co-directors of the original John Wick movie – David Leitch – has landed the job of bringing Deadpool 2 to the screen. Now the original film’s other director, Chad Stahelski, has landed a sizeable new gig too.
Stahelski, who’s directed the upcoming John Wick: Chapter Two solo, is the latest to be charged with rebooting Highlander for the big screen. The Lionsgate-backed project has already gone through three directors – Justin Lin, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan – on its quest to get back to the big screen. The hope is that Stahelski will succeed where the others have stumbled.
It’s little secret that Lionsgate is looking to ignite a fresh franchise here (it even had Ryan Reynolds attached to star at one stage, although that was many years ago), with sequels very much in its thinking. It does look a little like it’s going back to square one, though, as the hunt is now on for new writers for the project.
