Could Chris Pratt Be The Next Indiana Jones?
By Sarah Jayne Alexander.
If reports coming in from tinsel town are anything to go by then Chris Pratt could indeed be trading his spaceship in (temporarily) for the famous whip/fedora/leatherjacket combo previously sported by Harrison Ford in one of the most successful franchises ever created.
The character based on 1930’s superhero’s and created by Star Wars Godfather George Lucas in 1981 first appeared in the film Raiders of the Lost Ark which was followed up by four other huge box office releases including Indiana and the Temple of Doom (1984) and most recently in 2008 Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull staring John Hurt, Cate Blanchett and Ray Winstone, taking in a whopping $786 million worldwide. In fact, the character is so popular in today’s culture, in 2003, the American Film Institute ranked Indiana Jones as the second greatest film hero of all time and named the 6th Greatest Movie Character EVER by Empire magazine. Not too shabby for a college professor with a whip fetish.
The speculative ‘reboot’ will be released by Disney (we suspect through LucasFilm) who bought the rights to the franchise from Paramount Studios in 2013 and with Disney on a current box office high, now seems like the perfect time to get the snake fearing adventure seeker cast with one of the hottest actors in Hollywood at the moment-and! Someone who is already on their payroll through his multi-picture deal with Marvel for Guardians of the Galaxy.
Deadline reported earlier today that things are very early on in the production and that Disney have their sights set on the star, who they hope to build the new franchise around. The site went on to say that this is a rumour at this point, but with an existing relationship, an ever increasing fan base, and two of the top 10 films of 2014 under his belt, we’re hoping this blossoms into a full blown confirmed production. Chris Pratt has already proved he can pull off being an outcast come hero, he has the sense of humour Indiana Jones is famous for and! his CV is pretty impressive to boot! Our only query is, has anyone considered that Harrison Ford might want to reprise his role (regardless of being almost 74) himself? Coming off the back of shooting Star Wars VII, he isn’t exactly taking early retirement any time soon…..
Currently, Chris Pratt is filming the final season of the hit US TV Series ‘Parks and Recreation’ which will air later in the year and he will also star in one of 2015’s most anticipated releases Jurassic World due for release in April. As if that wasn’t enough, we reported last year that the Lego Movie star has joined the cast of Antoine Fuqua’s “Magnificent Seven” remake alongside Denzel Washington and that’s all before Guardians of the Galaxy 2 starts. PHEW!
