Island of Lemurs: Madagascar

Documentary writer/producer Drew Fellman has launched the brand new IMAX 3D film ‘Island of Lemurs: Madagascar, narrated by Morgan Freeman, among 21 playful lemurs at Woburn Safari Park.

Island of Lemurs: Madagascar was released exclusively in IMAX 3D at select IMAX cinemas on the 5th September and Fellman flew to the UK to meet the hugely popular primates and members of the public at the Bedfordshire safari park.

Fellman (Born To Be Wild), said:  “I’m delighted to be here at Woburn, Britain’s home of lemurs, with these fantastic creatures that inspired me to make this new film.

“The story of lemurs is a great adventure story and IMAX 3D really allowed us to bring the audience into the environment.  We were able to get perspectives that you just can’t get using normal film.  Watching Island of Lemurs: Madagascar in IMAX 3D is like having a lemur in your lap!  It really helps you feel what it’s like to be in the rainforest in Madagascar.

“The most important thing for us with this film is to introduce people to lemurs, as they are some of the most amazing animals we’ve ever met.  We want everyone else in the world to meet them and fall in love with them the way we did.

Morgan Freeman, who narrates the film, added: “Lemurs are incredibly diverse and that is a reflection of the diversity on this planet.  But we’re jeopardising that, pushing them out of the way so we can grow food or erect buildings.  Our responsibility is to recognise that we’re not here to have dominion; we are here to share this message, and to protect it.  Film has the power to spread that message.”

Island of Lemurs: Madagascar, looks at the incredible true story of nature’s greatest explorers — lemurs. Tirelessly captured with IMAX® 3D cameras, the film takes audiences on a spectacular journey to the remote and wondrous world of Madagascar. Lemurs arrived in Madagascar as castaways millions of years ago and evolved into hundreds of diverse species but are now highly endangered.
