DC Comics approached James Gunn before he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that time is passed…
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 director James Gunn has revealed passed on the chance to direct a DC Comics movie before he entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe during a recent fan Q&A session on his official Facebook page. Gunn also said he’s over that as well.
“I’ve had opportunities to make DC films, but I haven’t said yes to anything, and not sure I would at this time”, Gunn said. “I’ve talked before about which projects appeal to me the most IF I was into making one, and it’s always Shazam and Metal Men and Swamp Thing and Johan Hex and a few other DC IPs I’ve enjoyed for a great deal of my life.”
Gunn didn’t say which DC movie was offered to him and also revealed that he hasn’t been keeping too many tabs on DC movies.
“I thought there was some amazing action sequences in Man Of Steel, but I haven’t seen the other two films,” Gunn revealed, indicating Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Suicide Squad. But he did acknowledged that Suicide Squad beat out Guardians Of The Galaxy at the box office.
“It beat us first weekend,” Gunn said. “We almost made more money second weekend. And there is a very likely chance we’ll make more money at the end of the day (we made more domestically than BvS even). The great thing about Guardians wasn’t that it came in and made a ton of money but that so many people went and told their friends about the movie, who went to see it, and that people kept coming back again and again. By the time we were in the later weeks, we were making more money than any comic book film EVER, which was such an amazing feeling for those of us who put our hearts into it.”
When a fan asked which female character is his favourite, Gunn figured “maybe Batgirl. Cassandra Cain version,” who first appeared in 1999 and is currently undercover under the codename Orphan in DC Comics’ Detective Comics series.
This all comes soon after Gunn revealed on Twitter that he is sure there will be a third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but he doesn’t think he’ll direct it.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, and Kurt Russell. It will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
