Director James Gunn has made no secret of the fact that his forthcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy sequel for Marvel will see legendary outlaw Star-Lord run into his biological father, and it looks like there are tumultuous times ahead for Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), along with a little bit of the angst that comes part and parcel with your less space-based daddy issues.
“To let somebody love you is a very difficult thing, especially when you’re damaged goods. And all of the Guardians are damaged goods,” Gunn told USA Today. “It runs the gamut of emotions for [Star-Lord], wanting to understand why his father wasn’t around to quickly idolising him and ultimately learning the reality of the relationship and comparing the man who sired him to the man who raised him.”
The first movie certainly had plenty of daddy issues for both Peter Quill and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) to deal with. While the former ended up betraying his volatile father figure and reluctant collaborator Yondu (Michael Rooker) on a handful of occasions peppered throughout the story, the latter also chose to step out of her own adoptive father’s shadow to choose a lighter path alongside the galaxy’s newest gang of protectors.
How Star-Lord’s father will fit into the events of the second film in the franchise is only likely to be revealed when the film is released in April, however.
In the meantime, here’s the trailer for the film…
