Celebrating its 19th year, The Jameson Empire Awards will be hosted by award-winning actor James Nesbitt.
This will be the internationally renowned actor’s debut presenting the Awards, which will be held in London on Sunday 30 March and attended by a multitude of star guests from the world of film, all eager to find out if the public have crowned them one of this year’s winners.
James Nesbitt has starred in films, television shows and theatre productions, including the movie that leads this year’s shortlist, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug (nominated for seven awards). He has previously hosted ceremonies including the British Independent Film Awards and the Laurence Olivier Awards; commenting on hosting the Jameson Empire Awards he said:
“It’s been a fantastic year for film, from independent movies to Hollywood blockbusters, and the Jameson Empire Awards has always been a great barometer of what has really made an impact with the fans. I’m delighted to be part of what promises to be a hugely entertaining evening.”
James Nesbitt won acclaim for his lead role in Paul Greengrass’ film Bloody Sunday and has worked with directors including Michael Winterbottom and Danny Boyle, with whom he recently collaborated on Channel 4’s Babylon. Other television roles include the BAFTA-winning Occupation and Cold Feet.
The shortlist for the Jameson Empire Awards, voted for entirely by the cinema-going public, was the most diverse yet, honouring blockbusters and independent films, with a special emphasis on British films and filmmaking talent. The voting has now closed for the winners. Regarded as the antidote to more formal, industry-voted awards, the Jameson Empire Awards are voted for entirely by the cinema-going public. The winners will be announced at the star-studded ceremony on Sunday 30 March.
Empire’s Editor-In-Chief Mark Dinning comments:
“This year’s Jameson Empire Awards is already shaping up to be our most spectacular ever, with more readers voting than ever before and an astonishing list of winners. We are delighted that this very special year we have a very special host, in the terrific James Nesbitt. A huge favourite of both the Empire readers and everyone on the Empire team, he is of course a huge star in his own right, but his charm and sharp sense of humour makes him an even more perfect fit.”
