Actress Julie Engelbrecht has joked she gave muscle man Vin Diesel a run for his money on the set of The Last Witch Hunter.
The 31-year-old German star has scored her Hollywood breakthrough role with the action adventure that hits cinemas from October (15). Despite Vin’s impressive physique, Julie insists she was able to hold her own as Witch Queen during the fight scenes.
“Vin and I have some amazing action scenes which we rehearsed a great deal for,” she explained to Germany’s TV Direkt magazine. “I gave him a run for his money because I had a real advantage – magical powers! It really was fun, I love physical challenges.”
Julie was thrown in headfirst with The Last Witch Hunter, a huge production that also stars Elijah Wood and Michael Caine. Coming from humble beginnings on the TV screen, it took her breath away.
“It was the first time I’d worked on an action-fantasy film,” she said. “A huge team, amazing production – it was unbelievable! Working with special and visual effects that are added in post-production was new for me. You’re playing with things that don’t exist, which is a great fantasy exercise.”
While The Last Witch Hunter was a lot of fun, it also proved cathartic for protagonist Vin. His close friend and Fast and Furious co-star Paul Walker tragically died after a car accident in 2013 and the film helped Vin process his passing.
“The idea that someone immortal could be so melancholy, 2014 was a tough year for me in many ways. Playing a character that was masking his sorrow was very appropriate, because that’s what I was doing in real-life with the post Furious 7,” Vin recently said.
