Things are moving along where the fifth Jurassic Park film is concerned, that we’re currently called Jurassic World 2. The movie this time around is being directed by J A Bayona (A Monster Calls), and he’s working from a script by the Jurassic World team of Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly.
Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Jones and Rafe Spall are the confirmed cast members for the new movie thus far, and Bayona has been chatting to Cinema Blend about it, and where it links in to the rest of the Jurassic Park films. It is more Jurassic World 2, or Jurassic Park 5?
“I think somehow it’s both”, he said. “It’s a very good question, and what we’re doing is a sequel to Jurassic World, but it’s definitely the fifth chapter of a longer saga”.
“It’s very interesting. It’s always tricky, but you need to find a balance in what people expect to find, and the new stuff you’re bringing to the story. And I think the story is looking for a connection between Jurassic World and Jurassic Park – more than what Jurassic World did”.
He does note that his film will be “the second chapter of the story that started in Jurassic World, and it’s open to a third chapter too”, and that “we’re leading the story to a place that the audience is not expecting, and that’s always exciting when you do a sequel”.
But that’s where the teasing stopped. Jurassic World 2 is due in cinemas on June 22nd 2018. We suspect we’ll find out a few more details early next year.
