Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg are genuine buddies.
The 25-year-old actress has reunited with her Adventureland co-star Jesse Eisenberg for new movie American Ultra, in which they play a stoner couple escaping a CIA mission to terminate them.
They make a convincing onscreen couple, which is all down to their friendship in real life.
“We became fast friends because we have a lot in common and we’re about to do our third movie together so we’re obviously drawn to similarly tone… and just similar things,” Kristen told Collider. “I agree, when people try and forge these relationships on screen that are very clearly the opposite of how they feel, it comes across. And we’re genuinely true friends.”
Jesse concurred with his pal’s comments, adding that the script by Max Landis helped their alter egos’ situation feel “very authentic”.
The pair felt so close to their characters Mike and Phoebe that they wanted to do them justice with their performances.
“If something feels that way, it makes you emotional because you don’t want to let those people down,” Kristen added. “And so it kind of instils this loyalty and honour – I feel like I need to honour that, it’s very motivating.”
The movie is packed full of action, with one scene involving Mike killing an agent using just a spoon. Jesse describes the story as a “surreal nightmare” and feels for Mike and Phoebe, being thrust into danger when all they want to do is lead a quiet life.
The third movie Kristen and Jesse are working on is the upcoming Untitled Woody Allen project. They join a cast of fellow A-listers including Blake Lively and Bruce Willis.
