Actress Kristen Wiig found shooting Nasty Baby “enticing” and especially enjoyed wearing her own clothes during filming.
The 42-year-old star appears in Chilean director Sebastián Silva’s latest indie flick about two gay men trying to conceive a baby with a nurse. Kristen had wanted to work with Sebastián, who also plays one of the homosexual characters, for some time, so she was thrilled when presented with the opportunity.
“Everything about it was so enticing,” she gushed to LA Times newspaper. “We shot it in like two weeks, we had no budget, we brought some of our own wardrobe and just kind of ran around Brooklyn with the camera. It was a style of filmmaking and creating that I really loved being part of.
“I liked that (my character Polly) was this single girl in Brooklyn who wanted to have a child and her two best friends were trying to help her out. You get the feeling it’s been going on for a while.”
Kristen connected to the honest elements of the feature and the way it documented a woman’s struggle to become a mother. She thrived under Sebastián’s direction as he urged her to make Polly uptight, a quality the actress loved playing up to.
It’s a relatively small project compared to Kristen’s upcoming role in the female remake of Ghostbusters, also starring Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. The hype surrounding the flick is huge and while she can’t divulge any details, Kristen did share how surprised she was by people’s reactions.
“The fact there was so much controversy because we were women was surprising to me,” she sighed. “Some people said some really not nice things about the fact that there were women. It didn’t make me mad, it just really bummed me out. We’re really honouring those movies.”
