With the 2015 releases of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man heralding the end of Marvel’s Phase Two, attention is shifting to the next batch of Marvel movies slated to hit cinemas in the coming years.
Chief among them is next year’s Doctor Strange, and with filming currently underway in Nepal the now customary set photos have begun leaking onto the web (via Instagram), giving fans an unofficial first look at Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular bearded doctor Stephen Strange and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo.

In the comics, Mordo is initially a student of the Ancient One – who is also Strange’s mentor – before becoming one of Strange’s premier villains. Given that Doctor Strangeis an origin story, it’s safe to conclude that the above set pics are from relatively early on in story terms.
Aside from having one of the best casts ever for a comic book movie (seriously, see below…), the promise of the exploration of new realms makes Doctor Strange one of 2016’s most exciting propositions. Fans of the character will know exactly what the introduction of Marvel’s ‘Sorcerer Supreme’ will mean for the MCU. Who knows, we may yet see Doctor Strange and Spider-Man team up in the near future.
Directed by Scott Derickson and starring Cumberbatch, Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg and Mads Mikkelsen, Doctor Strange is released in UK cinemas on October 28 2016 before opening in US theatres on November 4 2016.
