After celebrated South Korean filmmaker Shin Sang-ok meets and falls in love with glamorous actress Choi Eun-hee in post-war Korea of the 1950s, it sets in motion a chain of events that lead to them becoming kidnapped by movie-obsessed dictator Kim Jong-il, their biggest fan.
