The original Mary Poppins and Bert are being lined up for a return in – fittingly – Mary Poppins Returns…
A quick but important update here. The original Mary Poppins and Bert – Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke – are being lined up to join the cast of Mary Poppins Returns. Neither has yet signed on the dotted line, but E! Online reports that there are now plans to get both involved in the movie. We’ll let you know when the news is confirmed.
Here, from the end of July, is the news about Meryl Streep signing up…
The new Mary Poppins film – Mary Poppins Returns – is getting closer to filming, and the cast for the project continues to expand.
Already in place? Emily Blunt, who will be stepping into the role made famous on screen by the peerless Julie Andrews. Lin Manuel-Miranda has also already been cast.
Now? Meryl Streep is said to be in talks to take on the role of Mary Poppins’ cousin, Topsy. She’s not signed on the dotted line just yet, but we’d imagine in this case it’s just a matter of time.
It’ll be something of an Into The Woods reunion too. Rob Marshall directed that movie, as well as Mary Poppins Returns. And both Streep and Blunt featured in Into The Woods as well.
Mary Poppins Returns arrives in cinemas on December 25th 2018 in the US (we’re expecting the UK release date to be very close to that).
