The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress

One of the leading forces behind the X-Men movie franchise is heading out of this world for his next effort. According to THR, Bryan Singer is attached to direct the big screen adaptation of classic sci-fi novel, The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress.

Fox recently acquired the rights to Robert A. Heinlein’s 1966 tome, about a lunar colony’s quest for emancipation from the governance of Earth.  The novel snagged the decorated Hugo Award for best science fiction novel in 1967.

Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim is tapped to script the movie – which is being developed under the title Uprising – after two failed attempts to adapt the book saw the rights revert back to Heinlein’s estate.

Both Dreamworks and Phoenix Pictures optioned Heinlein’s masterpiece but were unable to get it off the ground. Will Singer’s stellar track record for adapting much-loved genre material prove, that indeed, the third time is a charm?

It’s expected that the filmmaker will commence work on the film once his latest outing for Fox is in the can. The director is currently in pre-production on mutant sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse, slated for a May 2016 release.
