Elizabeth Banks confirms she’s stepping away from directing Pitch Perfect 3, but will still be involved with the film.
Changes are afoot in the world of Pitch Perfect 3. The musical sequel was bumped back to a Christmas 2017 release date at the end of last week, having originally been scheduled for next summer. And now we learn that the hunt is on for a new director, as Elizabeth Banks has resigned the megaphone on this one.
Banks directed Pitch Perfect 2, has appeared in the films in the role of Gail, and has produced the movies to date. She’ll still be acting in the third film, as well as producing.
Why the change, then? She’s put it down to “parental responsibilities”.
Explaining that Pitch Perfect 3 has “been in development and it took longer than we thought”, she added that “I needed to shoot another movie in the summer. If we pushed into fall it bumped up against my parental responsibilities, which made me feel uncomfortable”.
Pitch Perfect 3 will now arrive on December 22nd 2017.
