Who’s playing young Han Solo?

We’ll be seeing a younger incarnation of the character on screen again in 2018’s standalone Han Solo movie, and after a long search Disney are finally getting close to selecting the actor to take on the mantle.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the shortlist for the role has been narrowed down from 2,500 names to five; Alden Ehrenreich (Hail Caesar!), Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Eddie the Eagle), Emory Cohen (Brooklyn), Blake Jenner (Everybody Wants Some), and Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction).

While Egerton is probably the most well-known of the five – and could be first choice – with two Kingsman sequels on the way in addition to Robin Hood: Origins, his schedule is already pretty packed. I don’t envy Phil Lord and Chris Miller; all the candidates are extremely talented – and THR also notes that there “could be a few other names on the list” – but it sounds like we’ll know who won the role fairly soon.

Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the Han Solo standalone movie is scheduled to open on May 25, 2018.
