Steven Spielberg’s virtual reality movie adaptation, Ready Player One, adds Hannah John-Kamen to its ensemble.
While his next film is due out in a couple of weeks (The BFG), the next project on director Steven Spielberg’s docket after that is already being covetously anticipated by fans. How could the filmmaker of Close Encounters and Jurassic Park returning to the realm of sci-fi and fantasy not be? His big screen take on Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One is not due out until March 30th 2018 but is already gaining traction with every casting announcement.
On that note, Deadline has now revealed that British actress Hannah John-Kamen of the Syfy show Killjoys (as well as the sixth season of Game of Thrones) has landed a major part in the upcoming blockbuster.
While the lead roles have already been cast with Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Olivia Cooke (Me And Earl And The Dying Girl) taking them, this is an apparently very sought after part. The film also already has T J Miller (Deadpool) and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) amongst its troupe.
Adapted from Cline’s novel of the same name, and with a screenplay by Zak Penn, Ready Player One takes place in the year 2044 where video games meet futuristic dystopia/Willy Wonka trippiness. For there is a video game creator who offers up the entire keys to his virtual reality kingdom to the gamer who can enter his VR world called OASIS and find a specific Easter egg. Chasing that golden ticket is Wade Watts (Sheridan), who meets the challenge head-on.
