Robin Hood: Origins adding Jamie Dornan

Jamie Dornan is set to go from 50 Shades Darker to Sherwood Forest…

Jamie Dornan may already be preparing for the masquerade of excitement wrapping around Fifty Shades Darker, but he is also looking at franchise potential beyond that Valentine’s Day treat. Indeed, the actor currently best known for playing the role of Christian Grey is now in talks to join Taron Egerton in Robin Hood: Origins.

The news was broken by The Hollywood Reporter, which indicates that Dornan is in talks to play Will Scarlett, the member of the Merry Men known for wearing fine clothes and as the best swordsmen of the motley crew. If Dornan closes the deal with Lionsgate, he will be starring alongside Egerton from Kingsmen: The Secret Service as Robin Hood and Jamie Foxx as Little John. Eve Hewson has also been cast as Maid Marian.

The movie, which aims to give a new spin on the Robin Hood legend, is being directed by Otto Bathurst and is the first of several in-development projects starring the Merry Men to make it to the big screen. Additionally, this take on the character is being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and Joby Harold, the latter of whom wrote the screenplay for the film (he is also one of the several writers credited with next year’s King Arthur: The Legend Of The Sword).

Robin Hood: Origins is still slated for a 2017 release, albeit it has yet to begin shooting with a scheduled January start date. More as we hear it…
