RSFC 2013 – Call For Entries
reed.co.uk is delighted to announce the launch of the 2013 Short Film Competition (RSFC). The call for entries coincides with the launch of a major television advertising campaign for reed.co.uk, directed by former category winners, Jonathan Brooks and Mat Laroche.
Now in its fourth year, the RSFC has established itself as a major event on the short film circuit, attracting a high calibre of filmmakers competing for the £10,000 Grand Prix and the opportunity it brings to further their career in film . The competition is open to everyone, from amateur to professional, and serves as a showcase for emerging, next generation talent.
Each year, budding filmmakers are given a theme to work to and this year the theme is ‘AMBITION’.
In addition to the Grand Prix, the competition also awards prizes for the Judges Commendation and The People’s Choice Award. Films are to be no longer 3 minutes in length and closing date for entry is 23.59hrs on 31st January 2013.
Entries to be submitted on reed.co.uk/film. The panel of judges is made up of industry professionals and will be announced in February with the nominations. The finals will be held in May 2013.
Last year’s winner and details of the 2013 competition can be found on this link: http://www.reed.co.uk/film
As part of reed.co.uk’s commitment to support new talent and provide opportunities for career development, former nominees Brooks and Laroche were hired to direct a commercial for a major television campaign as part of the Love Mondays campaign. Starring actor and comedian Rufus Jones (Hunderby) as Captain Reed, an intergalactic space traveller who has the power to change people’s lives by changing their careers, the campaign will roll out nationwide from 30th September on primetime slots across all broadcast channels. Previously the duo won a public voted competition to create a commercial for the company. Their winning entry, Super Reed, aired on terrestrial television earlier this year.
Paul Weiland, Director and long time RSFC supporter said:
“There are numerous short film competitions but very few that reward filmmakers with such a serious commitment to making their next production a reality. The reed.co.uk Short Film Competition is an important and vital support to filmmakers, not only for the winning director(s), but for all involved. Jon and Mat’s success lends itself as proof that this competition truly is a platform for emerging talent.”
Brooks and Laroche said:
“If it wasn’t for entering and being shortlisted for the inaugural reed.co.uk short film competition we would never have been invited to create a commercial for their advert competition. Competitions like the RSFC are important for young filmmakers, not only as an excuse to get out and make something fun, but they can directly lead to developing careers in the film and television industry. Winning that competition has literally changed our lives.”
Mark Rhodes, Marketing Director at reed.co.uk said:
“The shorts we’ve seen in previous competitions have been inspiring, so we’re really excited to launch this year’s competition and start showcasing more top UK talent. Open to everyone, we’re asking for short films about AMBITION this year. Opportunity sits at the heart of everything we do at reed.co.uk and the Short Film Competition has been an excellent way for us to support up and coming creative talent in whatever career path they choose. It’s with anticipation that we await this year’s submissions and the emergence of new and exciting voices from within the world of short filmmaking.”
