With Marvel set to reset the Spider-Man franchise for the second time in recent years, the man who first brought the character to the big screen has had his say on developments, with Sam Raimi giving the studio’s plans his seal of approval.
“I saw [both Marc Webb movies], they’re great,” said Raimi in an interview with MTV. “And I’m really glad that Marvel’s taking it to high school. I think that’s gonna be refreshing, and just like my favourite of the Spider-Man comic-books.”
“I have a lot of faith that they really know their stuff,” says Raimi of the Marvel Studios team. “The difficulty of going through high school is so unique to a superhero. It’s unique and that’s what Spider-Man’s all about, so that they’re gonna explore that head on is very exciting.”
Jon Watts is officially in place to direct the character’s new adventure, with young actor Tom Holland the man next in line to don the famous suit. The film will open in the US on 28 July 2017, with a UK date to be confirmed.
