Busy man as always, Steven Spielberg. He’s already shot his adaptation of Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One, that arrives in cinemas next March. But whilst it’s in post-production, he’ll also have shot and released another film altogether.
That’s the movie that was known as The Post, and is now changing its name to The Papers. It’s the story of the Washington Post, and its involvement in the reveal of the Pentagon Papers back in 1971, that opened up details about the Vietnam War the US government would rather have kept under wraps.
Tom Hanks has long been cast in the role of editor Ben Bradlee, with Meryl Streep also there from the start as publisher Kay Graham. As filming has now begun, we learn the rest of the cast too. Zack Woods, Sarah Poulson, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bradley Whitford, Alison Brie, Carrie Coon, David Cross, Matthew Rhys, Jesse Plemons, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk and Bruce Greenwood are rounding out the ensemble. We don’t have details of their exact roles just yet.
The film is getting an Oscar-qualifying small release in the US in December, before opening wide in the US and UK in January 2018. More on the movie as we hear it…
