Star Wars: Ewan McGregor on an Obi-Wan Kenobi film

Lucasfilm is in the planning stages for its next raft of Star Wars movies, and we’ll be finding out what the 2020 spin-off film in the series will be this summer.

There’s been chatter about a Boba Fett movie, and also some rumours of an Obi-Wan spin-off film. Ewan McGregor played the character in the Star Wars prequels, of course, and has been happy to be linked with playing the role again in a future movie. And now, in an new interview with EW, he’s reiterated his interest in returning to Star Wars, to link the prequel trilogy with the new films.

“There’s no official offer, and I haven’t met them about it or anything”, he said. “But I’ve always said that I’d be happy to do it if they wanted to do it. It would be a good segue between the last episode of the prequels and the new episodes. I think they’ve got films to make until the 2020s, so I don’t think it’s going to happen soon if it happens at all”.

Either McGregor is playing his cards close to his chest, or the chances of an Obi-Wan movie in the foreseeable future are next to non-existent. We’d have to say it looks like the latter right now.

We’ll keep you posted as we hear more…
