Inspired by Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s acclaimed novel, the story follows Chris Guthrie from childhood, through to motherhood, played by Agyness Deyn as the powerful central female character and symbol for Scotland. Her strength of character, never undermined by the hardship she faces, offers a rich tale set against the majestic Scottish landscape of Aberdeenshire set within a small, symbolic, rural community trying to forge a meagre living from an inhospitable land. All this takes place in the rising turmoil of the early 20th Century a time of vast industrial change, devastation brought about by WWI and the Great Depression.
