Terminator 6 will ignore Genisys

In spite of the fact that James Cameron initially praised 2015’s Terminator: Genisys in the initial promotion for the film – “if you like the Terminator films, you’re gonna love this movie!” – you don’t need us to tell you that the film, ultimately, stank. It did okay business at the box office, but the sheer quality of it left plans for a new trilogy in tatters.

So much so that Cameron himself has been brought back for Terminator6, the third Terminator film in a row that’s set to kickstart a new trilogy of movies.

Cameron is working on the story and producing the movie, with Deadpool’s Tim Miller set to direct. And it’s already set to bring back Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton. Schwarzenegger himself, chatting at an event in Birmingham over the weekend, has been giving an update on the new film, that’s now in pre-production.

Schwarzenegger confirmed that Linda Hamilton is in training for the new film, and that Robert Patrick won’t be involved. He also, unsurprisingly, confirmed that the film won’t be called Terminator 6 upon release. And then the killer fact: “it’s going to ignore Genisys”. The hint is it’s going to be a more direct follow-up to Terminator 2 instead.

Filming is set to begin in March on the new film. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more…
