Peccadillo acquires 2014 Berlin Film Festival ‘Teddy Award’ winner. Helmed by first-time director Daniel Ribeiro, THE WAY HE LOOKS garnered heightened attention during this year’s Berlin Film Festival, which charts the story of Leonardo; a blind teenager dealing with an overprotective mother while trying to live a more independent life. To the disappointment of his best friend, Giovana, he plans to go on an exchange program abroad. When Gabriel, a new student in town, arrives at their classroom, new feelings blossom in Leonardo making him question his plans to fulfil his promise to Giovana.
CineEuropa states that Ribiero attended the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2010 with his first draft of the script. “My mentor told me that the story needed more conflicts. I had to write a completely new script,” said the Campus alumnus. “Therefore, my film was born in Berlin.”
In addition to the Teddy Award for Best Feature Film and the Fipresci Prize, THE WAY HE LOOKS also came second place for the Panorama Audience Award for Best Feature.
