Thor: The Dark World

Marvel Studios’ latest release, THOR THE DARK WORLD has created a storm over the UK, hammering home an opening box office of £8.65 million. The result, which includes a 3 day weekend total of £5.54 million, sees THOR THE DARK WORLD take more than double the result of the current number two film, making it the clear number one film in the UK. The weekend result has also eclipsed the entire first week box office of the first film, Marvel’s THOR.

THOR THE DARK WORLD, which continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, following Marvel’s THOR and Marvel’s AVENGERS ASSEMBLE, also achieved global success by opening as the number one film in countries including France, Germany and Spain taking $109.4 million worldwide in its first weekend. The film flies into US cinemas from November 8th.

The film, starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, features a strong British cast including Tom Hiddleston, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Christopher Eccleston, with key scenes shot on location in London. The production was primarily shot at Shepperton Studios and helmed by Game of Thrones director, Alan Taylor. Londoner Tom Hiddleston was excited about having his hometown featured in the film stating “No one is going to have seen London in the way they see it in this film.”

THOR THE DARK WORLD sees Thor battle to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s THOR and Marvel’s AVENGERS ASSEMBLE Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
