Ah, now this suddenly got really rather interesting. For a while, it’s been hard to muster up too much enthusiasm for the planned ‘gritty’ new take on Robin Hood heading to cinemas. Notwithstanding the presence of Taron Egerton in the lead role, Robin Hood: Origins – on paper at least – feels like a film that’s hardly required. Appreciating that you could argue no film is ‘required’.
However, the casting of the movie has continued to impress, and if you’re a waverer, then this latest announcement might be the one to get you on board. For Tim Minchin is set to sign on the dotted line to play Friar Tuck in the new movie. Alongside Egerton, he’ll be joined in the ensemble by Jamie Foxx, Jamie Dornan, Eve Hewson, Ben Mendelsohn and Paul Anderson.
Peaky Blinders director Otto Bathurst is helming the feature, that’s been penned by Joby Harold. Robin Hood: Origins is set to land in cinemas on March 23rd 2018, and filming is underway now.
