We may be currently enjoying Lara Croft’s latest adventure in Rise of the Tomb Raider, but it’s been over a decade since we last saw the heroine in cinemas. Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life landed in 2003 and was the second of two films headlined by Angelina Jolie, but since then the franchise has lain dormant. Well, not for much longer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reboot will be directed by Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug and “will detail Croft’s first adventure”. Evan Daugherty, Marti Noxon, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have already tinkered with the script, andTransformers 5 co-writer Geneva Robertston-Dworet will be penning another draft.
Uthaug – whose most recent film The Wave garnered positive reviews at film festivals earlier this year – will be making his English-language debut with the Tomb Raider reboot. With a director in place and a screenplay incoming, the next step will be to find a leading lady. From Emily Blunt to Rebecca Ferguson and more, 2015 has shone a spotlight on plenty of actresses who could be great in the role. Who’s your pick?
