Here’s the brand new trailer for Beauty And The Beast.
Also recently, it was revealed that Emma Watson had helped shape the new take on the character of Belle.
Belle was a pretty intelligent young girl in the animated version of Beauty And The Beast, always wandering around with a book in her hand and certainly sharp enough to be wary of handsome brute Gaston. During her tumultuous stay at the Beast’s castle, she at least had his magnificent library at her disposal.
But in the new version of the story, some six months away from hitting the big screen, Belle has levelled up and become a little bit more of a gem by taking on her father’s original inventor role – a twist that the actress who’s playing her, Harry Potter‘s Emma Watson, helped forge.
“In the animated movie, it’s her father who is the inventor, and we actually co-opted that for Belle,” said Watson. “I was like, ‘Well, there was never very much information or detail at the beginning of the story as to why Belle didn’t fit in, other than she liked books. Also what is she doing with her time?’ So, we created a backstory for her, which was that she had invented a kind of washing machine, so that, instead of doing laundry, she could sit and use that time to read instead. So, yeah, we made Belle an inventor.”
Belle’s father’s new role in the film will be focused on creating music boxes for her, so she doesn’t feel as though she’s missing out.
“Kevin Kline as Maurice, is making all these music boxes that have to tell the story of Belle not traveling,” explained the film’s set decorator, Katie Spencer. “She’s overprotected in a way, by her father, because she’s lost her mother. So, we’ve made all these music boxes that represent different countries of the world, so she can see what she’s missing.”
We’re looking forward to seeing inventor Belle in action.
