Trailer: Dog Eat Dog

Nicolas Cage and Willem Dafoe star in Paul Schrader’s new movie, Dog Eat Dog. Here’s the trailer…

Based on the 1995 novel of the same name by real-life ex-criminal Edward Bunker, the Cleveland-set Dog Eat Dog centres on utterly irredeemable ne’er-do-well ex-cons Troy (Nicolas Cage), Mad Dog (Willem Dafoe) and their heavy hitter Diesel (The Walking Dead’s Christopher Matthew Cook) who take on the terrible task of kidnapping a dangerous gangster’s one-year-old baby! However, unlike with Cage’s signature (also ex-con) role in the Coen Brothers’ Raising Arizona, said infant abduction does not at all go as planned, resulting in our repugnant protagonists going on the run from the law and from the gangster baby-daddy in question. What ensues is a wanton spree of brutal bloodletting and body-dropping.

In the director’s chair for Dog Eat Dog (that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival) is Paul Schrader, who directed Cage in 2014’s Dying oOf The Light and Dafoe in 2007’s The Walker. Schrader’s prolific career has seen him helm efforts such as Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist, the seedy Bob Crane biopic Auto Focus, the Bowie-song-inspiring Cat People and the 1980 Richard Gere-starring smash American Gigolo. His resume as a writer also yields Scorsese-centric bragging rights, seeing as he wrote the screenplay for Taxi Driver, co-wrote Raging Bull and The Last Temptation of Christ. Here, Schrader adapts a screenplay by Matthew Wilder based on the later Edward Bunker’s novel.

Dog Eat Dog will see a day-and-date release, hitting limited cinemas and VOD simultaneously on November 18. Check out the trailer below…
