Following the release of the first trailer for War For The Planet Of The Apes last week, the now almost-inevitable international trailer has rolled around, with a bit more footage. You can see that right here…
The first in the rebooted series, 2011’s Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, was an unexpectedly good sci-fi prison break drama told largely from the perspective of Andy Serkis’ intelligent ape, Caesar. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, released in 2014, continued Caesar’s journey, with humanity’s population decimated and tensions between species fomented by the apes’ cunning second-in-command, Koba (Toby Kebbell).
In next year’s War, the emnity between ape and mankind boils over into all-out conflict. Forces led by a single-minded colonel (Woody Harrelson) strike at the heart of Caesar’s camp and, driven by anger and grief, Caesar sets aside his hopes of achieving peace, and strikes out on a revenge mission. Director Matt Reeves, who took over from Rise’s Rupert Wyatt on Dawn, is back for this one, and that’s just one reason why War could yet be one of next year’s best blockbusters.
War For The Planet Of The Apes, out in cinemas in July 2017.
