TRON 3: not entirely dead

TRON 3 might not be entirely dead, it seems, as its producer holds out hope for another movie…

It feels as though TRON 3 is one of those sequels that got very, very close to happening, before the plug was ultimately pulled. At one stage, it even looked as though the movie might shoot last year. But last we heard, TRON 3 was all but dead.

That said, producer Brigham Taylor is one of those who continues to hold out just a flicker of hope for a new film. “I’m always hopeful for that”, Taylor told Screen Rant.

“I just had a wonderful visit to Shanghai, where they have an amazing attraction based on TRON Legacy. The designers just did such an amazing job creating the feeling of stepping onto The Grid, and that indelible visual world that Lisberger created and Kosinski explored… and I think there’s a real stickiness to that that I hope can grow into a film or whatever else”.

“So I don’t know what I’d “hint” at other than that I hope for that, and that there’s obviously been conversations”.

The fact that there have been conversations is about the best we can take out of this for the minute, we’d suggest. Given the expense involved in making a TRON movie, and given the current direction of Disney’s output, we can’t imagine that TRON 3 is anywhere close to being a priority. But if its light is still burning somewhere? That’s surely a good thing.
