Divergent is definitely heading to television, Lionsgate confirms, and it also admits the more Twilight films are a “possibility”…
With the Divergent series faltering (more on that below), Lionsgate’s hopes of having a third massive young adult movie franchise have hit problems. Still, there’s continued chatter about more The Hunger Games movies, with a prequel the most likely. And then there’s Twilight, the series that woke Hollywood studios up to the idea of young adult movie franchises (although Harry Potter can’t have hurt).
Not surprisingly, then, Lionsgate co-chief Patrick Wachsberger has held the door open for more Twilight movies – but insists that that author Stephenie Meyer holds the keys to them.
Chatting to Screen Daily, Wachsberger said that “it’s a possibility. Not a certainty, but it’s a possibility”, with regards to future Twilight movies. “It’s about Stephenie. If she wants to tell a story related to those characters we’re here for her”.
Furthermore, he also confirmed that Divergent is now a television project, and that the planned fourth film won’t be heading for cinemas.
