Wonder Woman 2 officially confirmed

Warner Bros formally announces Wonder Woman 2 at Comic-Con…

Believe it or not, Wonder Woman 2 hadn’t yet been confirmed until DC Films took the stage at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend. It’s not the biggest surprise in the world, but the annnouncement that the project is real is still very good news. For in a sizzle reel featuring all of DC’s upcoming lineup, it was finally confirmed that Wonder Woman 2 is indeed happening. That’s about all that’s confirmed for now, but it’s good enough. Patty Jenkins is expected to return to direct, and Gal Gadot will be reprising the title role.

Like something ripped from today’s headlines, Diana will be taking on the Soviet Union in Wonder Woman 2. ScreenRant were the first to report that plans are taking shape for Wonder Woman 2 to take place in the 1980s, with a focus on Diana’s efforts at the end of the Cold War. Director Patty Jenkins is currently working with DC’s Geoff Johns on the early plans for the film.

Earlier, Patty Jenkins had mentioned that she planned to have Wonder Woman 2 set in America. Since it’s unlikely that the movie will play up the Russians as straight villains (much like how they handled the Germans in the first film’s World War I setting), this could turn out be a matter of Diana averting an unintended nuclear armageddon.

In any case, don’t expect this to be a situation like Superman IV: The Quest For Peace where the hero tries to rid the world of all nuclear weapons or anything like that.
