An organised frenzy of X-Men fans will be flocking to Leicester Square on Monday 12 May in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record.
The record is for the most X-Men cosplayers in one place and needs a minimum of 250 people dressed as official X-Men characters to count. There is no specification to what version of the character can be played; however, their sex cannot be changed.
The authenticity of the costumes must be easily attested by an on-site X-Men expert.
The event is to coincide with the UK Premiere of the summer blockbuster, X-Men: Days of Future Past and eager participants are expected to arrive at 12pm on the day, ready to take a stand.
For some extra fun, there will be a recreation of Nickleback’s ‘Rockstar’ video, with an interesting twist and a special surprise.
Event organiser, Josh Varney said: ‘This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for fans of the X-Men franchise to make history and to celebrate the film that we’ve all been waiting for.
We already have nearly 200 people signed up and we would love to see even more. It is a great opportunity for those who don’t normally dress up to have some fun and to meet like-minded people.
We have the blessing from several people who are very closely linked to the movie but we’re not allowed to say who at this time as it will ruin the surprise.’
There is a page on Facebook which allows cosplayers to RSVP and discuss the event: https://www.facebook.com/events/562045263865279/644820848921053/?notif_t=event_mall_reply
Marvel recently set a record with the release of their comic ‘Deadpool #27’ by having a staggering 232 characters on the front of a single cover.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is released in UK cinemas May 22nd 2014.
