Sony is still working on a sequel to Zombieland, co-writer Rhett Reese reveals.
2009’s Zombieland remains a short, sharp blast of fun. The movie – which features a cameo we don’t want to spoil, but that brings the house down – was a solid hit off a low budget. As such, plans were afoot for a sequel.
These seemed to have been derailed when Amazon put together a pilot episode for a TV spin-off, that failed to win over audiences. As such, a series wasn’t ordered, and it seemed that Zombieland’s days were over.
However, the film’s co-writer Rhett Reese – who’s also just co-penned Deadpool with his regular collaborator Paul Wernick – has given an update. And it turns out that Zombieland 2 is still alive.
He told The Q And A Podcast that “it’s actually still in development over at Sony, they’ve had a couple writers take a crack at it, we’re still exec producers and we’re guiding and helping where we can and, yeah, I think there’s still very much talk about it”.
He added that “I think it has to be right, I think all the actors and [director] Reuben [Fleischer] all feel like there’s no reason to do it again if we’re not getting it exactly right”.
Given the near-seven years it’s taken to get this far, there doesn’t seem too much point in rushing.
